AB 1826 Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling Requirements Adjust January 1, 2019

Since April of 2016 and the implementation of AB 1826, organics recycling requirements for businesses and multifamily residential properties have been phasing in to help the State meet its goal to recycle 75 percent of its waste by 2020. The next phase of AB 1826 requires all business entities that generate four (4) or more cubic yards of solid waste a week to adopt an organics program by January 1, 2019. The City of Duarte and Burrtec Waste Industries are here to help comply with the latest state requirement.

Since 2016, Burrtec has o ered customized food and green waste programs that assists in complying with the law. The law phases in the requirements on businesses and multi-family residential dwellings over time. Additionally, the State law contains a trigger that will increase the scope of a ected businesses, if waste reduction targets are not met by 2020.
