Twelve Candidates to Vie for City Council Seats in Four Districts

seats in the November 6, 2018, election. The deadline for filing nomination papers closed on August 10 and the County of Los Angeles has verified the nomination papers for all twelve candidates.

Incumbents Tzeitel Paras Caracci, local business owner of “See Jack Play” from District No. 1, and Margaret Finlay, six-term Mayor and immediate Past President of the Southern California Association of Governments from District No. 4, will be on the ballot. Other candidates from these two Districts are Dolores Oritiz, a Production Manager, District No. 1, and David Van de Wetering, a Management Assistant from District No. 4.  No candidate filed against Councilmember Samuel Kang in District No. 5 allowing the Council, per the State Elections Code, to re-appoint him to another four-year term at a special meeting held on August 21st.

This race will also feature two new Districts No. 6 and 7 that will each have four candidates.   Running in District No. 6 are Art Rodriguez Jr., a Business Consultant, Cesar Andres Garcia, a Business Person/Entertainer, Evangelina Sanchez, an Educator, and Bryan Urias, a Director from the Upper San Gabriel Municipal Water District. In District No. 7, Mike Sharble, a Service Director, Jack Corson Chang, a Business Owner, Jarrett Stoltzfus, a Transportation Management Professional, and Jocelyn Nunez, a Healthcare Professional will be running.

The final day to register to vote in the November election is October 22. In addition, the Duarte Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters, Pasadena Area will host two separate candidate forums in the month of October.  The forums will provide an opportunity for the community to meet and hear from candidates who are vying to serve on the City Council and the Duarte Unified School Board in the upcoming November elections.
The first forum on Tuesday, October 2 will feature seven candidates competing for three seats on the Duarte Unified School Board.  The Forum will take place at the Duarte Community Center located at 1600 Huntington Drive, Duarte, CA from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Residents in the City of Duarte will participate in the first district-based election when they go to vote for in the city’s upcoming council elections.  A field of twelve candidates are contending for five City Council seats in the November 6, 2018, election.  The Duarte City Council Candidates forum will take place on Wednesday, October 10 at the Duarte Community Center, 1600 Huntington Drive, Duarte, CA from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The League of Women Voters, Pasadena Area will moderate both forums and attendees will have the opportunity to submit written questions of the candidates during each event.
