Community Clean-Up and Household Hazardous & E-Waste Round-Up, September 29th

Who said spring was the only time for cleaning? On Saturday, September 29thfrom 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, Duarte will hold its bi-annual Community Clean-up Day at both Duarte City Hall, 1600 Huntington Drive, Duarte CA, 91010 and Beardslee Elementary School, 1212 Kelwill Way. Residents can dispose of e-waste, appliances, mattresses and other large items. The Community Clean-Up Day is free and open to Duarte residents.   

At the City Hall location only, there will be a free Compost Giveaway and Shred Event. The Compost Giveaway is a self-serve event so please bring sturdy bags, pails, containers, gloves, and a shovel to take and load your material. Compost is available on a first come, first serve basis only. The Shred Event will be accepting bank statements, old pay stubs, credit card applications, old papers with personal information. At the City Hall location, the County of Los Angeles will be sponsoring a Household Hazardous & E-waste Collection Event from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Acceptable wastes include brake fluid, paint, paint thinner, cleaners with acid or lye, pesticides or herbicides, household batteries and car batteries, pool chemicals, motor oil, oil filters, expired pharmaceuticals, and anti-freeze. They will also be collecting household electronic waste and hypodermic needles, pen needles, syringes, lancets, and intravenous needles too.

Bring items in a sturdy box, (preferably in their original labeled containers), and be sure not to mix items together. There is a limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per trip and be prepared to leave your containers and boxes. Please note that business waste will not be accepted and neither will explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, trash and tires, white good such as: refrigerators, stoves and washing machines, or any type of controlled substances.
