A discussion on fireworks focusing on whether to enact an outright ban by ordinance, or to put the matter before the voters in the upcoming November 2018 election, will occur at the July 24thCity Council meeting starting at 7:00 pm. All those concerned about the issue, whether in favor or not of continuing the sale and detonation of legal "Safe and Sane" fireworks in the City, are encouraged to attend.
Over the past few months, residents and other community members have expressed significant concern regarding the sale and detonation of both legal and illegal fireworks in the City. In response to this concern, the City Council has discussed its current Fireworks ordinance at several City Council meetings in 2018. Most recently on June 28th,the Council discussed whether to direct staff to include a ballot measure prohibiting the sale and discharge of legal fireworks starting in 2019 on the November 2018 ballot. Proponents on each side of the potential ballot measure were given a ten-minute presentation period. Staff was instructed at that time to bring back to the July 24th the necessary resolutions to conduct the election for potential Council action.
