DUARTE, CA, March 1, 2018 – With the planning for Duarte's annual Route 66 Parade underway, residents and business owners are encouraged to volunteer for one of the City’s hallmark events. Persons are needed for such areas as parade logistics, VIP breakfast, application processing, fundraising and much more. The Route 66 Parade Committee will have their first planning committee meeting on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Elks Lodge, 2436 Huntington Drive, Duarte, CA 91010.
Slated for September 22, 2018, the festivities start at 10:00 am along Duarte’s Historic Route 66 followed by the Duarte City Picnic and Classic Car Show at Royal Oaks Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Route 66 parade, co-sponsored by the City of Duarte, the Route 66 Parade Committee, and the Duarte Community Coordinating Council begins at the northeast corner of Huntington Dr. and Cotter St. and proceeds east for one mile ending at Mt. Olive Drive. It typically consists of about 1,400 entries including antique and classic cars, schools, churches, equestrians, hogs, and marching bands will take part in the event. High school bands from throughout Southern California will also compete for trophies.
