CITY OF HOPE INVITES YOU TO HELP DECORATE THE 2018 FLOAT FOR THE ROSE PARADE

DUARTE CA, November 22, 2017- City of Hope is ready to kick off the New Year with a powerful message with their 46th float in the 129th annual Tournament of Roses Parade. The float showcases the Rose Parade’s theme of “Making a Difference” by emphasizing City of Hope’s commitment to groundbreaking research and patient-focused care. The physicians, nurses and patients riding the float symbolize City of Hope’s promise: better futures for cancer patients everywhere.

The 2018 float, themed “Transforming Lives with Hope,” reflects the journey each patient must make on the road to recovery. The campus of City of Hope and it's many historical landmarks is represented as the float reflects a patient’s journey starting with the Wishing Tree. Patients and their families are encouraged to jot down a wish or a note of encouragement, then hang it from one of the wishing trees. The butterflies are representative of the miraculous transformations happening across the organization, where compassionate, patient-focused is combined with leading-edge medical advances.  City of Hope’s credo, “There is no profit in curing the body if, in the process, we destroy the soul,” is centrally featured within the carousal, a powerful reminder of City of Hope’s core values, which emphasize care for the whole person rather than just their disease.

For more than 100 years, City of Hope’s defining characteristic has been a commitment to serving humanity. This means providing exceptional, compassionate care, but also pushing boundaries to develop new treatments and new cures. This commitment is represented by the patients, doctors, researchers, and nurses featured on and around the float.
