The City of Duarte will begin accepting applications beginning October 2nd to fill 18 positions on its six City Commissions. Duarte citizens interested in serving on a commission will have until November 30, 2017 to apply.
Commission applications must be received by the City Manager’s Office at Duarte City Hall, 1600 Huntington Drive by 6:00 p.m. on November 30. Application forms will be available at City Hall, Public Safety, the Duarte Teen and Senior Centers, with a easy to use refillable version on the City’s website: www.accessduarte.com. The expiration of 2017 terms for current commissioners is December 31.
City Councilmembers will interview applicants beginning at 4:00 p.m. on December 5th. Appointments will be announced at the City Council meeting on December 12, 2017, with new commissioners formally taking their oaths of office at the first meeting in January 9, 2018.
Six commissions offer interested citizens a variety of opportunities to serve their community in an advisory capacity to the City Council. Positions are available on the Planning Commission (3) (One is a Duarte Chamber rep.), Public Safety Commission (3), Parks and Recreation Commission (3), Economic Development Commission (4), Traffic Safety Commission, (3) and the Public Services Commission (2).
To kick-off the recruitment process and prepare applicants to serve on commissions, the City staff conducted a “City Commissioner Informational Workshop” for current commissioners and interested persons on September 26 in the Duarte Community Center. The two-hour event featuring both dinner and an overview of commissioner responsibilities was attended by approximately 35 persons.
