New Mixed Use Project Approved for Huntington Drive

 

Approval has been given for a new mixed use project on Huntington Drive with 161 luxury apartments and 5,560 square feet of commercial space.   The project site is 1405-1437 Huntington Drive, currently vacant City owned property and Alex Romo Auto Repair.  This is the first major project to be developed under the, award winning, Town Center Specific Plan and was designed to be a model of the quality development encouraged in the planning area. 

 

The project development team, MJW Investments and The Richman Group has worked with City Staff to ensure that the project blends well with its surroundings.  The Richman Group is the seventh largest apartment owner in the United States and is excited to bring its newest project to Duarte.  Unit sizes in the project will range from 550 square foot studios to 1,130 square foot two-bedroom units.  The project will also be loaded with resident amenities that include: swimming pool, fitness center, club house, dog wash area and several other outdoor amenities.  A public art piece will be a part of the project as will a new traffic signal on Huntington Drive and the project entry which lines up the Brycedale Avenue.

 

This project is unique in many ways; for one, it has been over 20 years since a market-rate apartment project has been built.  The project also provides much needed housing for the community and will hopefully spur other high quality projects in town.  The project exceeds the number of parking spaces required by the Code and, in addition, provides 21 spaces of public parking on the project site on the west end of the property adjacent to a shopping center.
