DUARTE, CA September 5, 2017- Who said spring was the only time for cleaning? On Saturday, September 30th from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, Duarte will hold its bi-annual Community Clean-Up Day at two convenient locations: Duarte City Hall, 1600 Huntington Drive and Beardslee School, 1212 Kelwill Way. At the events, residents can conveniently dispose of e-waste, certain appliances, mattresses, and other large items.
In addition to the Community Clean-Up, at the City Hall location only, there will all so be a free paper shredding event that will be accepting bank statements, old pay stubs, credit card applications, old papers with personal information and much more. Also featured will be a self-serve Compost Giveaway requiring participants to bring sturdy bags, pails, containers, gloves, and a shovel to take and load the material. Compost is available on a first come, first serve basis only. Residents are asked to bring a copy of their trash bill as proof of Duarte residency for both these services.
The Clean-Up event does not end there! A Household Hazardous Waste Collection sponsored by Los Angeles County will also be happening from 9 am to 3 pm. Acceptable wastes include brake fluid, paint, paint thinner, cleaners with acid or lye, pesticides or herbicides, household batteries and car batteries, pool chemicals, motor oil, oil filters, expired pharmaceuticals, and anti-freeze. This is a great opportunity to get rid of household electronic waste, hypodermic needles, pen needles, syringes, lancets, and intravenous needles.
Please note that business waste will not be accepted and neither will explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, trash, tires, refrigerators, stove or washing machines. For these types of prohibited items, please contact 1(888) CLEAN-LA or Burrtec Waste Services at (626) 932-1558.
