DUARTE DAY AT THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY FAIR TO HAPPEN SEPTEMBER 13

DUARTE CA, JULY 18, 2017- The City of Duarte invites the Duarte community to join the official “Duarte Day” Celebration at the Los Angeles County Fair on Wednesday, September 13th. In partnership with the Cities of Monrovia, La Verne, and the MAD communities, Duarteans will be able to come together to celebrate our “Community Hero” and join in a fun-filled community parade starting at 5:00 pm.

Sponsored by Foothill Transit and FSP Design, grab your families, work together as a team and participate in a day in Duarte filled with fun, adventure and prizes! The first-place team will be awarded $400, the second-place team will be awarded $300 and the third-place team will be awarded $200. All placing teams will also receive a family fun pack including various goodies and gift cards from local businesses.

NATIONAL PARKS/FEDERAL RECREATIONAL LANDS SENIOR PASS TO INCREASE EIGHTFOLD

DUARTE, CA, August, 2017 - Beginning August 28, 2017, the Federal Recreational Lands Senior Pass will increase from $10 to $80. The lifetime pass has not increased since 1994 and the new revenue will be used to enhance the visitor experience throughout every National park in the country; currently more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by 6 federal agencies. Senior Passes purchased before August 28, 2017, will be grandfathered in at the old rate and are good for life.

Duarte Seeks Volunteers to Fill City Commissions; Informational Dinner to Be Held on September 26

To facilitate the recruitment process and prepare applicants to serve on commissions, the City staff will be conducting a “City Commissioner Informational Workshop” for current commissioners and interested persons on September 26 starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Duarte Community Center. The two-hour event features an overview of commissioner responsibilities and roles, and will be followed by dinner.

National Night Out Celebration 2017

On Tuesday, August 1, 2017, Los Angeles County Sheriff ‘s Deputies and fire fighters alongside Duarte Public Safety Personnel and elected officials mingled with residents at Duarte’s annual National Night Out celebration. Over 200 residents of all ages showed their support despite the rain at this community wide celebration over a free BBQ dinner and a sunset movie at beautiful Encanto Park.

DUARTE, CA, August 1, 2017 – San Gabriel Valley workforce leaders and the Duarte Chamber of Commerce are again partnering a to host the annual Women’s Business Expo “Turn Your Passion into Power” scheduled for September 9, 2017 from 9am-2pm. The expo, held at the Duarte Senior Center located at 1610 Huntington Dr. charges a minimal fee of $10 per attendee which includes continental breakfast, lunch, giveaways and much more.

Pasadena/Duarte 2017 ACTSO Team awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at NAACP National Convention in Baltimore, MD

Three local high school students including two Duarte High School graduates representing the Pasadena/Duarte NAACP Branch #1054 were awarded a total of three medals: gold, silver and bronze at the recent national ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological Olympics) competition, July 21 – 24 in Baltimore, MD.

The City of Duarte continues its long tradition of creating empowering opportunities for at-risk youth through the launching of the Work Investment Network (WIN) summer internship program. WIN, a collaboration of the City of Duarte and Duarte Unified School District created a unique opportunity for 20 at-risk teens and young adults aged 16 – 24, to gain meaningful work experience at a variety of work sites throughout the community.

Duarte, Calif.—Aug. 8, 2017—California School of the Arts – San Gabriel Valley (CSArts-SGV), a new public charter school offering unparalleled opportunities for middle and high school students passionate about the arts, opens with the first day of school on Tuesday, Aug. 14. Since June 30, 2016, when the Duarte Unified School District (DUSD) School Board unanimously approved the charter, CSArts-SGV has accepted more than 700 students in grades seven through 11 (next year will expand to include grade 12).
