November 2009 Burglary Alert!
The City of Duarte has experienced an approximate 30% increase in
residential burglaries when compared to 2008. Investigation has led to
suspects who cased neighborhoods prior to the burglaries. Some of the
burglars possibly posed as solicitors. Some suspects were arrested and there
was a decrease at the end of the summer.
Remember, under the City of Duarte Municipal Code section 5.16.020, “ No
person shall engage in, conduct, or carry on the business of peddler,
solicitor, or canvasser, without first applying for and receiving a permit
from the Director of Finance.”
If you come in contact with a solicitor immediately call the Public Safety
Department and verify their permit at (626) 357-7938. After business hours
please contact the Temple Sheriff Station at (626) 485-7171. Public Safety
hours are Monday - Thursday 7:30AM to 6:00 PM Friday and Saturday 7:30 AM -
4:00 PM,
If a suspicious person knocks at your door be sure to let them know you are
home but do not open the door until you can verify a visible identification;
or inform them you will contact the Duarte Public Safety Office to verify
authenticity. If you feel unsafe or threatened call - 911.
